Vicki: Paper piecing with Beach Babes and This N' That

Ugh! With this Polar Vortex hanging around making most of the country miserable with relentless wind, cold and snow, I can't help but "Dwell in the Possibility" of warmer weather! So, my Vintrigue selection of Rogue Redhead Designs stamps were in order for this card.  I used an image from the Beach Babes Plate and sentiment from the This N' That Plate to create this colorful and fun card.

 "Dwell in the Possibility"

Pantone's color of the year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid, not one you see often in crafting, but colors in my newest paper collection, Violet Crush from Kaisercraft.  I love this collection! The card base of white cardstock is covered with two layers of patterned paper.  The hearts are die-cut in two different sizes, with two patterns for each size.   I cut the hearts in half and pieced together the different patterns for each heart.  Next, I stamped the girl image on both white and patterned paper.  I fussy cut the dress from the patterned paper and pieced it over the cut out cardstock image.  The leaves are die-cut from a matching green paper in my scrap stash. I added a few fussy cut butterflies, pearls, the stamped sentiment tag with twine bow and some white faux stitching to complete the scene.

I hope you were inspired with my paper pieced card!

Helene: Christmas Paper Piecing with Relish Reading

Our new Holiday Inspiration Club has me thinking about all the wonderful things I can make ahead of time with my favorite RRD stamps.

You know I do a lot of fussy cutting so our latest Rebel challenge to show some paper piecing was calling my name.

For my patterned papers, I chose the Nontraditional Christmas digital collage sheets from My Artistic Adventures Etsy.  These included the BINGO card for my base and the tree.

The image of the woman reading in the chair is from RRD Relish Reading plate.  I stamped her on beige card and then again several times on the patterns.  After fussing cutting the chair, skirt and pillow, I pieced them all together.

I found a scrap of felt trim to anchor the chair and tree to the "floor".  Hero Arts turquoise gems on the tree, Stampin' Up snow flury die for the snowflake and an antique bingo card cover/button from my stash complete the card.  I used Ranger distress markers to edge the papers and tried to alter the red to pink on the bingo piece.

I love the nontraditional pink and turquoise colors with the vintage image.  I hope you do too.

I can't wait to see what you make for the Rebel challenge!  If you link up by  February 2, you will be in the running for a $15 US voucher to the Rogue Redhead Store.   Til then, Helene

Krisha: A Parisian Paper Piecing with Milliner Misses!

Isn't Parisian a cool description??  Since the Rogue Redhead's Rebel challenge #31 is paper piecing I had to take the challenge......right?  Actually I was over at Hobby Lobby, wondering around with my nifty 50% of one item coupon and I saw this roll of ribbon.  Well the lights flashed and the bells went off! ( and people were beginning to stare)  I knew right then exactly what I was going to do.  Back over to the pretty papers I flew and found just what I needed.  On an embossed background I stamped one of the Milliner Misses plate RRD007, then pieced in the pink paper hat with black and white trim. I did use a pen for the top of the hat and the brim.  Her jacket was pieced with the same black and white print that is also the background print.  The pink ribbon was added and over that the black Eifel Tower ( my new TH die, LOVE IT)  The sentiment is from the RRD plate RRD011 Nature Notes, stamped on pink and two black rhinestones were added to finish it off.  Her face and hair were done with colored pencil and OMS.
I know one should not brag, but I just love the way this card turned out.

Have YOU joined the challenge yet?

Introducing the Holiday Inspiration Club - One-Layer Elegance

I don't know about you, but the holiday season in 2013 was so busy!  I had very little time to craft and less time to just relax. As January is the year of resolutions, I have decided I will get a HUGE head start on my holiday crafting by doing a little every month.  The Rogue Crew will be helping me along the way!

Each month, we'll present some holiday inspiration and a chance for you to show off your fabulous creations as well!  Join us and keep the holiday spirit all year long!

We'll be showcasing some of the best submissions on the RRD blog in February!

After such a busy season, we thought we would start with easy but elegant - one-layer creations.  You can create cards, tags, ATCs, scraplings and bookmarks to name just a few ideas. I was woefully light on cards this year, so I've made a bunch to start us off.

I have always loved masking and it is a great way to create a simple one-layer card.   There are so may ways to go with this technique.

For my first card, I thought I would start off with the ambassador of Christmas - Santa himself!

Stamps: Santa, Twas the Night background and sentiment Santa from Christmas Cheer
(Rogue Redhead Designs)

For this card, I used stamps from the Christmas Cheer set.  I started out by masking Santa and a small rectangle to his left.  I stamped the mini background, Twas the Night, from the set in the rectangle with Scattered Straw Distress ink.

Next, I sponged Wild Honey around the edges to give it a little depth.  By positioning the background panel offset, it provides a bit of feeling of movement to the card.

Finally, I removed the mask and added color with copic markers.  I added red to the hat in 3 shades.  For the beard, I added two tones of grey while the fur on the hat received a little light blue outlining.

For the next card, I did a twist on two Technique Junkies technique, the first called "In the Middle" and the second "Depth of Field"..  For the center strip, I have highlighted the Santa's Ride stamp, a great silhouette of the old gent delivering all his gifts in quite a hurry.  Above and below, I have stamped the holly stamp from Christmas Cheer in 3 different shades of Distress Ink, overlapping the various impressions.  I think the effect was quite effective!

(Rogue Redhead Deisgns)

With the green ink still out, I decided to create a cheery little greeting with those sweet bunnies from A Winter's Tale.  I again turned to my Technique Junkies newsletters for inspiration and remembered an old favorite called "Mono Masking".  Obviously, I did not follow all the directions as this did not turn into a monochrome piece.  I was also supposed to add different elements in justaposed quadrants, but I really loved the way the snowflakes turned out so I kept going with them.

Stamps: Bunny Bunch and 3 snowflakes from Beatrix Potter's A Winter's Tale set
(available from Rogue Redhead Designs)

After this one, I decided to go back to minimal and magnificent.  I used some splendid kraft cardstock and kept it simple, black ink with a little white highlighting.

Stamps: Santa's Ride and Merry Christmas from Christmas Cheer plate
(Rogue Redhead Deisgns)

For those that like more color, I have another quick and uncomplicated look.  Use geometric shapes and a repeating pattern for a striking but simple card.  In this instance, I mixed the extremely useful circle from Bits and Pieces with the Christmas Tree from Christmas Cheer.  The sentiment comes from the mix-and-match sentiments of Bits and Pieces.

Stamps: Christmas Tree from Christmas Cheer plate and sentiment and circle
from Bits and Pieces plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)
Partial masking can create another fabulous look.  For the card below, I first stamped and colored the Precious Pair (named by our dear Trisha Too of the Rogue Crew) from Christmas Cheer.  I created an oval mask using my oval cutter and laid it over the girls.  From there, I used re positionable notes to mask out a stripe.  I stamped the Sequin Waste background (Behind the Scenes) over the stripe with Scattered Straw and sponged more of the same color along the stripe.  Finally, I stamped the Handwrittten Music background (also from Behind the Scenes) over the stripe with Wild Honey distress ink and added more Wild Honey around the edges.  Finally, I added the Merry Christmas sentiment in Jet Black StazOn.

Stamps: Precious Pair and Merry Christmas from Christmas Cheer plate and Handwritten Music
and Reverse Sequin backgrounds from Behind the Scenes plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

Finally, I used some Post-It 6-Line Labeling and Cover-Up tape to create quick masked areas on the card below after stamping Santa in the middle with Memento ink and masking with a cut oval.  I filled in the exposed cardstock with Spun Sugar Distress ink, edged with Worn Lipstick Distress ink.  I stamped the Twas the Night mini background with Fire Brick Distress ink.  I used the same combination to add some red to Santa's hat with an aquabrush.  His beard I outlined in Stormy Sky.

Debi Ryan: Lovers Tag

Carnival Lovers Tag

Here's my first Rogue post of 2014, so what better way for me to start a Rogue year, with The Lovers from Carnival Dreams- regulars will know this is a fav of mine.

I already have Valentines Day on my mind :-)

I've gessoed the tag background and then applied a honeycomb template to the tag while the gesso is still wet and rubbed more gesso through- this gives the raised texture. I've then sponged and sprayed for the colour and layered the Lovers.
Have a great rest of the week.

Vicki Robertson: This New Year!

Another year has come and gone and it's 2014!  What?  I can remember as a kid I thought the year      2000 was eons away.  And, this year, like every other, has been a busy one already.

Rogue Redhead Designs released a new "Christmas Cheer" Stamp plate recently with great holiday and winter images.  One of my favorite stamps in the set is the holly branch.
 "happy new year"
I created my card using two images from this new release...the holly branch and "happy new year" sentiment.

The card is basic A2 size, 4 1/14" x 5 1/2" with the base being craft cardstock and an added layer of snowflake covered patterned paper for the background.

On the top layer of patterned paper, I stamped and embossed my images, the holly branch and "happy new year" sentiment with Versamark watermark ink and gold embossing powder.  I used my "go to" punch, the Martha Stewart lace border, across the bottom of the paper.  Using SEI gold mesh ribbon, I tied a bow with my Craft-Dee BowZ tool and wrapped it across the bottom edge of the patterned paper.  As a finishing touch, I added three Robin's Nest Dew Drops at the center of the branches.

Thanks for looking!
Vicki

trisha too: a precious pair

I've been working on several small handbound books, about 1 1/2 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall, filled with proverbs and such.  When I lettered a layout with "all precious,"  a precious pair came immediately to mind:
Do you recognize these little ladies?  You'll find them on the new plate release, Christmas Cheer, but clearly these two aren't just for Christmas!  They're adorable from the tops of their big hair bows, right down to the tips of their Mary Jane shoes.

So is the stamp on the opposite page--beautiful details on it:
(I mean the details on the stamp, not the page!)
Are you staying warm where you are?  Winter days are perfect for joining in a few challenges, so be sure to check out the latest Rebel challenge, Paper Piecing.

Helene Huber: Best Friends Valentine

I'm so very pleased to introduce to you the latest Rogue Redhead Designs, LLC half plate:  RRD0014 Christmas Cheer

I chose these two lovely girls from the set to stamp and color.  This is quickly becoming my new favorite stamp!

Since I wanted to concentrate on showcasing the stamp, I chose a ready made tag and word labels from Heather Hudson's digital collage collection: My Artistic Adventures.

I used Ranger Distress Markers to color and edge papers:
vintage photo, bundled sage, picket fence, spun sugar, and wild honey
Copic ciao Y11 for hair
Sakura Gelly Roll Clear Star pen to highlight pink roses
Clear Glaze pen on hobnails to accentuate oval
white pen
pink ribbon from stash

My color palette emphasizes a winter theme, appropriate for either Christmas or Valentine's Day, or as a birthday gift tag.  If you create Christmas all year long, this set has wonderful images to keep you going. Or you can do as I did, and extend these stamps to other occasions.  Don't you just love that?

Now is the time to snap up this plate--at its introductory special price!

Krisha: Lay Claim to Your Fate!

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone is off to a fresh start, or at least getting things caught up.
Sometimes DT work can be a challenge, and I had been wrestling around with what I wanted to do for this week.  I wanted to use my "new" stamps, but they are Christmas, and let's face it I am running on a burn out there! LOL

This started as a test of a new stamp from Rogue Redhead Designs' new Christmas Cheer (RRD 014) plate.  The test image is the spear looking image, once I stamped the image I was in love with it, and I had just used a scrap of cs.  Ok, what now?

Needing to do something different than Christmas style cards, I chose the sentiment from Rogue Redhead Designs This N That (RRD013) plate and brought it close to the spear.  Masked off a square and shaded it with colored pencil, also adding a shade to the square itself and to the spear, still on the scrap of cs.
The main white square is raised on pop dots and then mounted to the dark brown.  This is all mounted to a card base the same color as the main square.  I added a Fleur-de-lis button with brads in the holes for a finishing touch.

All that procrastinating and this card came together so fast I am still stunned.......LOL

Barbara Washington: Get My Drift?

Today I'm sharing a blast from the past. The hours and hours of snow falling in Chicago inspired me to pull out my retired RRD Candy Kisses stamp sheet. I used the Technique Junkies technique Overstamped Bands as my background. The snowflakes were stamped in shades of blue. I added the mittens and the sentiment (both from Candy Kisses). I certainly prefer to see snow on cards rather than on the streets.
Don't forget to check out the current specials. Be safe everyone.
