Barbara Washington: Happy Holidays

The current (until January 5th) Rebel Challenge is winter holidays. Since I haven't shared a Christmas card with you this year, I thought that I would do so this week. Actually I have to admit that because of my being hospitalized so long, this is the first Christmas card I have made this year.

To make my card I started with a green card base. I then stamped the music background from Behind the Scenes in red ink. I layered the background panel on a piece of glitter cardstock and then adhered the background to the card base. Using the Tim Holtz wreath die, I diecut the wreath and bow. My focal image is from the Milliner Misses stamp sheet. A little faux flocking added to the hat and scarf give her a winter look. The sentiment and background were stamped from the Bits and Pieces sheet. Using a Viva d├ęcor glitter pen, I added a few icicles to the sentiment panel.

Don't forget that we have lots of specials going on right now. Check them out HERE.

Happy Holidays from Rogue Redhead Designs

Vicki here with my last post in the Rogue Redhead Design blog for 2013.
It has been a great year being part of RRD and I am excited to be back in the new year too.
Today, I am sending a Happy Holiday wish to all of you!
"Happy Holidays"
I have been playing with a plethora of mixed media in the past couple of weeks and decided to keep it going while making this tag.  Lots of die-cuts, ink, mist and embossing to add detail to the project.
The laser cut wooden Christmas tree design was created using the Reverse Sequin Waste background stamp from the Behind the Scenes plate, watermark ink and gold embossing powder.  Love this plate of background stamps! There are four to choose from in the set.
The "Happy Holidays" sentiment is a combination of words found in the Bits and Pieces Stamp plate.  Another great set of stamps to add to your collection.  You can create many different sentiments with the large variety of words in this set.
You can find them all here in the Rogue Redhead Designs Store.
Vicki
The deadline for entries is January 5, 2014.
You could be the next winner of a $15.00 U.S. voucher to the Rogue Redhead Designs Store.
Please read the guidelines HERE to assure that your entry qualifies for the prize.

Best Friends

It's been quite a while since I posted here at RRD. I've had some health issues which had me in the hospital and rehab hospital for the last 2 1/2 months. Right now I am doing fantastic. Things are healing quite well. I am so excited to be able to spend a little time in my studio.

Today I am sharing a card I stamped using one of the new S.W.A.L.K. stamps now carried by Rogue Redhead Designs. Aren't these two young ladies adorable! I started with a white, square base card. The background is a square of design paper from Graphic 45. I die cut the circle frame from a matching piece of the design paper. The image was colored with watercolor pencils. I added the sentiment to the circle frame. Some lace and the flower both sprinkled with glitter were added as embellishment.

Best wishes to you during this holiday season and a healthy, happy new year!

trisha too: A look back, and looking forward . . .

It's almost Christmas, and as the year closes, I've been looking back at some of my past Rogue creations--this is one of my favorite mini books, incorporating the delightful Gettin' Grizzly bears and their beautiful honeycomb background stamp with monoprint backgrounds and collage images:
The honeycomb stamp really adds some dimension

Those three bears look pretty naughty themselves!

The expressions on their little bear faces--perfect!

NOBODY touches that bear's honey!

Contemplating her narrow escape . . .
Now for the look forward, but still with bookmaking on my mind--did you know Rogue Redhead Designs is now carrying
an absolutely adorable set of Beatrix Potter stamps?
How cute are THESE???
Christmas list, anyone?

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Krisha: Merry Christmas from Barkley

Is this little fella not the cutest puppy you have ever seen??  Looks like he might be related to you know who? There is a strong resemblance, and me thinks they are family..

Barkley is colored with pencil and OMS, he is very easy and quick to color.  I mounted him on dark green and then on a tilted red card stock.  The card base was dry embossed and a red, green and white ribbon was added at the bottom.  I just love the smallish, clear font of the sentiment.  This set also comes with a "From me to you" and a "Let it snow" sentiment.  There is also a second Barkley set that I know I am going to have to have now that I have made my first Barkley card.

He was so much fun to make I made a tag with him too:
What fun and I also found a ribbon with puppy tracks on it in my stash.

So Barkley and I want to wish all of you the very best of the holidays no matter how you choose to celebrate it.

Vicki Robertson: Holiday Thank You, S.W.A.L.K!

Rogue Redhead Designs is expanding their inventory of stamps!  You can now purchase a selection of  contemporary mini stamp sets from a couple of select manufacturers.
Find them HERE in the Rogue Redhead Designs Store.

My "Thank You" mini set is from the S.W.A.L.K.  Collection by Santoro and features this adorable image for creating the perfect holiday and other occasion thank you cards.

This little miss is ready to thank someone for that extra special holiday gift!
Keeping with the holiday theme, I used red, green and white for my thank you card.  The window is die-cut from shimmery pearl paper. I stamped and embossed the sentiment on white cardstock and added twinkling H2O around the edges.  It's matted with a green die-cut tag.  A little artificial snow and a few other embellishments complete the card.

Simple Set Saturday: Stenciling Vintage CAS Cards

The clean and simple style doesn't sound like it goes with either a vintage feel or stenciling, but I am not one to stick to the obvious.  One of the things that has always drawn me to vintage illustrations is their great lines and sense of form.  These are the same things that have caught my eye with stenciled pieces.  After an ah-ha moment, I decided to combine the two.  The process is very simple and involves one of my favorite techniques, albeit only briefly, masking which is basically a kissing cousin to stenciling.

I find my stencils in a variety of places, even making some on my own.  I actually really like working with painting stencils such as those that you might find in a craft store.

To start, I decide which stamp I would like as my focal image.  To make this work, it is best to chose a simple image with a distinct closed image.  Before I stamp the image on the actual card, I start off by making a mask by stamping the image onto a repositionable note and cutting it out.  Be sure to cut on or slightly inside the outline of the image; this will prevent your image being haunted by a "ghost" of an outline.

I then choose placement.  I start with my card base and use my mask in conjunction with my stencil to find a good placement for both.  I want to highlight my image but I also want it to overlap the stencil a little.  Move your mask and your stencil around until you are happy with the positioning.

Once the positioning is worked out, stamp your chosen image in the positioning you selected and cover with your mask.  You may want to attach your cardbase to your work surface with art tape.  It's good not to have things moving around too much while you are working with stencils.  I also secure my stencil as well, also with art tape.

I like to pounce in the color with either daubers, sponges or cotton balls.  You can select several colors or just one.  The stencil design  will help guide your imaginative forces.  If you use several colors, you may wish to use Distress Inks to create a nice blended tone.

Once you have finished applying ink to your stencil, remove both stencil and mask.  Voila!  Quick and easy look!

Once I had removed the stencil, I pounced on some green ink for a soft grass look under the cat to complete this simple and soft scene.

Stamp: cat from Just Sayin' plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

You can do a scene like the one above or avail yourself of some of the beautiful ornamental stencils.  I blended my inks to achieve the following look.

Stamp: Dot from Milliner Misses plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

You can also go whimsical with a simple pattern such as these fun flowers! For both the above cards, I added my brightest ink last to fill in any white spots and to brighten up the deep shades.

Stamp: Old Couple from Just Sayin' plate (Rogue Redhead Designs)

The variations are endless!  You'll get addicted to these fun and fabulous one-layer cards.
